MARCUS ARMITAGE

DP WORLD TOUR

INTERESTED IN PLAYER SPONSORSHIP

Marcus Ashley Philip Armitage (born 15 July 1987) is a highly respected English professional golfer competing on the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour). Known for his tenacity, charismatic personality, and inspirational journey through the ranks of professional golf, Marcus has become one of England’s most engaging and compelling players on the international stage.

Early Life & Background

Marcus was born in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, and later made his home in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. From a young age, he developed a passion for golf, ultimately choosing to pursue the sport professionally. He turned professional in 2008, beginning what would become a long and determined climb through the competitive tiers of men’s professional golf.

Professional Career

Marcus’s early professional years were spent on developmental circuits, including the PGA EuroPro Tour, where he distinguished himself quickly. In 2013, he was named Rookie of the Year and captured multiple victories, signalling his potential as a rising talent in the professional ranks.

In 2015, he added two more wins on the EuroPro Tour and finished fourth on the money list, paving his way to the Challenge Tour. There he continued to build momentum, winning the 2016 Foshan Open in China — a breakthrough that earned him status on the European Tour.

After a challenging first season at the highest level, Armitage battled back through Qualifying School and began to cement his presence on the DP World Tour. A standout performance came at the South African Open in 2020, where he finished third — his best result at that time on the main tour.

Breakthrough & European Tour Success

The defining moment of Marcus’s career arrived in June 2021 at the Porsche European Open in Hamburg, Germany. Entering the final round trailing the leaders, he delivered a spectacular closing performance with a seven-under-par 65 to claim his first European Tour title by two shots. The win was not only a professional milestone but also an emotional triumph, reflecting years of perseverance and personal sacrifice.

Off-Course Highlights & Personality

Beyond competition, Marcus has captured public attention with off-course feats such as setting a Guinness World Record for the longest golf shot caught in a moving car — a remarkable 303-yard drive caught inside a BMW traveling at speed.
